Getting Body Ready
Summer is here and almost gone, but for most of us our bodies are stuck somewhere back in the middle of last winter.
So what do we do about it? Well we look back onto those New Year Resolutions you might have set.
However then becomes a problem if our bodies are not ready for the goal!
“That’s all great, Dr. Alissa, but how do you get body ready?”
I’m glad you asked.
Step one is working out where you are at. Get an assessment to work out how your body is working and make sure your goals are S.M.A.R.T.* before you set out on your resolution goal. So if you haven’t already, give us a call and schedule a check-up or just reply to this email.
Step two is dealing with any old or chronic injuries. A lot of people embark on a new fitness journey only to find that old problems rear their ugly head and derail them.
Sit still for a moment and think about each area of your body. Start with your head and neck and work your way down from there. Catalogue any issues and ask then do what you have to do to get them right. If you’re not sure what to do just ask me and I’ll go through your options.
Step three is all about mobility. A more flexible body is less likely to be injured. Just remember to differentiate between static and dynamic stretching. If you’re not sure where to start, I would suggest watching a few beginner yoga videos online or better yet take a class.
So spend a few weeks (or longer) getting your body right. You’ll thank me for it in July when you’re still exercising.
